How to choose the process for 3D printing prototype? Make decisions based on verification goals
Let’s look at the conclusion first
- Demonstration models have different requirements than functional prototypes.
- Critical dimensions, materials and post-processing need to be confirmed together.
- Just because a sample passes a certain inspection does not mean that all conditions for mass production are met.
Appearance model, the focus is on visible and tangible

Assembling the prototype, focusing on key relationships
多个零件配合时，要提前标出孔位、卡扣、止口、接口和紧固位置。加工方向、支撑、后处理和变形，可能影响实际尺寸，不能只看单项设备参数判断结果。
制作前应整理必须检查的尺寸和装配步骤。收到样件后，不仅要看能否装起来，还要记录是否需要额外打磨、强行变形或改变顺序；这些现象本身就是需要反馈给结构设计的信息。
Functional prototype, focusing on materials and working conditions
涉及载荷、反复动作、温升或摩擦时，应使用适合目标测试的材料和加工方式，必要时结合真实器件。不同打印材料和工艺之间差异很大，不能把“3D 打印”当作一种固定性能的材料。
CNC、打印或其他试制方式的选择，也与尺寸、数量、交期和改动频率有关。我们会根据验证计划讨论组合方案，而不是因为某一种设备方便，就让所有问题都迁就同一种工艺。
From prototype to mold opening, there is a review process in between
原型通过装配检查，是推进下一步的证据，但它不自动证明注塑或其他量产工艺已经稳定。模具、成型变形、材料批次、生产节拍与检验方式，仍需后续确认。
因此，手板阶段结束时应整理问题清单、最终数据版本和未验证事项，再与加工环节交接。把“已经证实”和“仍需确认”分开，能让客户对下一笔投入作出更清楚的决定。
The most suitable prototype is one that can answer the current key questions with reasonable investment. Process selection should be driven by validation goals, not the other way around.
