What customers buy is a complete usage experience, not separate appearance drawings and structural drawings. We advocate confirming the function, device and cost boundaries first, so that the proportion, holding, assembly and manufacturing conditions of the product can be converged simultaneously.
Who should start first between exterior design and structural design?

Customers usually want more than just a replacement shell
一个客户说“想做得更高级”，背后可能是售价提升、品牌识别、渠道陈列，也可能只是现有产品太笨重。不同目标对应不同设计动作：增加金属装饰不一定解决握持问题，缩小体积也可能影响散热和装配。
我们会先询问产品使用者、购买场景和已有反馈，把笼统的审美诉求转成可讨论的目标。否则，外观团队和结构团队可能各自完成任务，最终却没有解决客户最初的问题。
Put hardware boundaries on the table in the first round
主板、电池、显示屏、电机、接口等关键器件，会影响产品尺寸、重心、开孔和维护空间。器件尚未确定时，可以使用明确标注的占位范围推进概念，但应同时记录假设和待确认项。
不建议把外壳完全定死后，再要求结构工程师把所有器件塞进去。更稳妥的做法是先建立可调整的内部布局，与外观比例同步检查，避免将关键约束拖到手板阶段才发现。
Turn appearance choices into comparable alternatives
外观评审不应只有“喜欢 A 还是 B”。可以让不同方向分别回答体积、操作、品牌识别和成本问题，并把材料、分件、表面处理的主要影响写在方案旁。客户看到的是取舍，而不是一堆难以判断的渲染图。
例如，整面高光表面可能更吸引眼球，但也要讨论划痕、指纹、分缝和维护。我们并不预设哪种风格一定更好，而是让使用场景和交付条件决定设计选择。
Ending the debate with prototypes and version management
方向收敛后，用外观模型确认比例和握持，再用结构或功能样机检查装配和操作。不同样机可以验证不同问题，不需要每一轮都做到接近量产的外观完成度。
每次评审应记录保留项、修改项、责任人和下一轮验证目标。这样设计修改有清楚的原因，客户也能理解哪一项变化会影响工时、模具或采购，而不是反复从头讨论。
Our suggestion is not to prioritize appearance or structure, but to prioritize user goals and put key constraints first. Appearance and structure should work together under the same product goal.
